Baby shower inspiration and recycling in your third trimester

It has been a couple of weeks since my last blog and those weeks have gone so fast! I finished work on the 16th and the days have flown by, meaning baby Giles is due pretty soon!

I was lucky enough to have two brilliant and beautiful baby showers and so I am going to run through a couple of suggestions for outfits I've seen, and then I am going to talk about the struggles of dressing in the final weeks and what I have found that helps (and that doesn't!).

My first baby shower was at work and I was determined to wear a dress, but the day dawned damp and miserable and so I wore jeans and a new maternity top that I had, which meant I was comfortable and could dress up with jewellery.

My second baby shower was at home and I was definitely wearing a dress this time! Which was a good idea as although it wasn't sunny I did get really hot and I was happy wearing a dress that was bright and fun, this one was £14.99 from New Look and is still in the shops now.

Here are some dresses that I've seen that I thought would be great for your baby shower:

Bluebelle maternity dress from ASOS - £20

ASOS maternity bardot dress - £28

Seraphine blue polka dot dress - £33

JoJo Maman Bebe bodycon dress - £29

I now have less than 2 weeks to go and I feel like I'm wearing the same clothes every day, my ridley ASOS jeans and a small assortment of blue and white stripey tops! I did venture out in a skirt one day which was really comfortable (£12.99 from New Look) but I felt massive! The main issue is everything feeling tight and feeling really hot, I mean REALLY hot. I don't have enough outfits that are cotton and so if you are at the beginning of your maternity clothes journey I recommend you bare this in mind.

The top below is from Fat Face (non maternity), I bought in a size larger than usual as I was confident I would wear this loads post pregnancy as well. It was £15 from the Fat Face outlet store at McArthur Glen.

I am also throwing this Saltrock jumper on everyday, another bargain from McArthur Glen (£12.50) and non maternity, but so long that it gets around the bump.

Not many of my maternity clothes fit any more as although I don't feel like I am getting that much bigger you do seem to change shape and everything does feel really tight. If you are starting to feel the pinch have a chat with your pregnant friends and see if there are any clothes you can share in this last month, are there any clothes you can donate to people earlier in their pregnancy or who are a smaller size and are there any clothes you can borrow that perhaps aren't maternity but are floaty and cooler fabrics? for example my mum has loaned me a green maxi dress which should be perfect.

Tips for near the end:

  • Layer, so you always have layers to take off when it gets hot
  • Buy natural fabrics to stay cool
  • Clothes swap where possible
  • Get used to washing lots!

Any recommendations send them over!
