Surviving pregnancy when the temperature rises!

Cardiff has basked in sunshine the last couple of weeks and so the challenge has been finding outfits that are comfy and cool, long may the heat continue but when you're carrying around some extra pounds and what feels like a hot water bottle you need to invest in some breathable fabrics and comfortable shoes!!

Below are some outfits I've sported the last few weeks, you can see me getting bigger and bigger, from 31 weeks to 33 weeks:

Mothercare - Current season £15 - I have worn this so many times!! (has started to bobble a little unfortunately)

H&M Current season £14.99

ASOS - donation from Gemma so you may need to look on eBay

Top New Look £12.99 bought in the ASOS Sale, denim jeans H&M £29.99 so a bit on the pricey side but I literally couldn't get any other trousers or jeans over my calves!

I am loving the stretchy jersey dresses, which surprises me because I never would have worn one pre pregnancy! I am, in this case, embracing the curves and going for comfort all the way. Does mean you have to wear the right knickers though!!

The outfits below can all be found in the shops at the moment and I thought they were pretty bargainous so if you are looking for comfortable maternity wear in a heatwave and on a budget check them out:

Red jersey dress from Dorothy Perkins £16!

Blue tile print dress from New Look £14.99

Navy and white spotty nursing dress  from H&M £14.99

I think the last one will offer the most longevity as it is a nursing dress but the two above are smarter so perfect if you have an informal occasion or can wear smart casual to work.

I am finding it harder to pull together work outfits in the heat and at my current size as everything is quite tight - not ideal if you are sitting for several hours. I am getting up and walking around as often as I can as the books suggest (and I need the loo constantly!) but will need to assess the leggings and tunic situation again shortly to keep up the smartness levels as well as breathable fabrics (cannot stress this enough if you are a sweaty betty like me!).

So 7 weeks to go, almost in the home straight and picking up the pace, sleep now evades me which could be affecting the limited outfit imagination so am hitting Pinterst again tonight for some inspiration. These are the outfits I've pinned so far - Pinterest

In terms of keeping cool:

Remember to elevate your feet and keep up the water intake, especially if you are in a hot office or having trouble sleeping. I've found eating really juicy fruits as snacks has helped me stay hydrated - Tesco have a '5 a day' pack for £2.50 which contains lots of fruit and veggies such as mango, watermelon, pineapple, carrots and cucumber, much better for you than chocolate and staves off the hunger longer than sweets.

I've also bought some coconut water face spray as my skin has been out of control throughout my pregnancy and in the current climate needs even more love, it was suggested for my hospital bag so thought I would try and make it a habit beforehand.

Talking of hospital bags - this is underway which is making the situation seem very real! Cot is also on route and yesterday we discussed nappies! We didn't reach a decision on disposable or reusable so feel free to share your advice!

Happy shopping and let me know if you find any bargains!!

Comments

  1. My sisters advice - she uses cloth nappies/reuseables - but don't even think about using them for the 1st 2 months as you have enough to deal with but get some before to practice if you want to use them. Seems reasonable advice to me
